According to Google, the Pixel camera app will soon get support for external microphones. Currently, the stock camera app of Pixel smartphones only supports the smartphone’s microphone which doesn’t do a good job of capturing and recording audio.

Google will soon update the camera app on all of the Pixel devices including the original Pixel and Pixel XL too so, they can work with external microphones when shooting a video.

This upcoming feature was confirmed from one of Google Engineer on Google Groups.

“At the same time as Pixel 3 launch (October 18th), we will introduce support for Android-compatible plugged-in external microphones in the default camera app for all Pixels,”

Pixel smartphones are best known in the market as they take terrific shots with their camera and along with that in video section Google has developed impressive video stabilization, arguably the best in the market and to make it even better, Google is now supporting external mics for videography.

External microphones will either plug-in into the USB-C port or 3.5mm headphone jack(in case of Original Pixel and Pixel XL.)

This new update is expected to be rolled out on the same day as the launch of the latest Pixel 3 which on Thursday, October 18th.

There are some third-party camera apps available on Play Store which allow the use of external mics to record video while using the camera of Pixel handset but having something in the stock camera app would be nice especially for vloggers and people who shoot videos with their smartphones.
